Angie Spinelli, a recent transplant to the San Francisco Bay Area, is an accomplished classically-trained concert pianist and jazz improviser who has been playing since she was four years old.  Angie received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin, where she studied classical piano performance with Howard Karp.   She received a full-tuition music scholarship and won competitions including the UW Beethoven Competition and UW Concerto Competition.  Angie then moved to Phoenix, Arizona, continuing her musical studies in jazz piano and Latin/salsa music with pianist Raul Yanez, before moving to the bay area in 2007. 

 

Angie now free-lances and plays many different styles of music, including jazz, Latin, R&B, Funk, adult contemporary, pop/alternative rock, and hip-hop/dance music.  Her specialty is being able to cross genres easily.  She plays with the bands Third Sol and the Girlz with a Z and singers & musicians such as Amanda King, Crystal Monee Hall, Branice McKenzie, Billy Jones, Fred Randolph, Jamie Brewer, Michael Warren, and Carla Kaufman, among others. Angie has performed at venues including the Fillmore Jazz Festival, the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco, and Anna's Jazz Island in Berkeley.  She performs regularly at restaurants/nightclubs, weddings, private parties/corporate events, and also does studio recording.  Angie's musical influences include Chopin, Debussy, Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, McCoy Tyner, and Stevie Wonder.  She is currently working on producing her debut CD project for piano trio, which includes two original compositions and will be released in 2012. (Purchase a copy in advance and help support the project by visiting http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2095241401/journey-a-cd

 

If you are interested in lessons, Angie has over 10 years experience teaching all ages, levels and styles from classical to popular and jazz.  She teaches at Musically Minded Academy in Oakland.  She strives to give her students a balanced musical education including sight-reading, music theory, technique, rhythm, and improvisation, while tailoring to their own musical interests.
