Angie Spinelli, a recent transplant to the San Francisco Bay Area, is an accomplished classically-trained concert pianist and jazz improviser who has been playing since she was four years old.  Angie received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin, where she studied classical piano performance with Howard Karp.   She received a full-tuition music scholarship and won competitions including the UW Beethoven Competition and UW Concerto Competition.  Angie then moved to Phoenix, Arizona, continuing her musical studies in jazz piano and Latin/salsa music with pianist Raul Yanez, before moving to the bay area in 2007. 


Angie now free-lances and plays many different styles of music, including jazz, Latin, R&B, Funk, adult contemporary, pop/alternative rock, and hip-hop/dance music.  Her specialty is being able to cross genres easily.  She plays with the Latin/funk band Third Sol and the all-girl jazz & R&B group Girlz with a Z and has collaborated with vocalists & instrumentalists such as Amanda King, Kerry Campbell, Kenny Washington, Crystal Monee Hall, Lisa Ferraro, and Rhonda Benin, among others. Angie has performed at venues including the Fillmore Jazz Festival, CAL-EXPO state fair, the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco, the Sound Room in Oakland, and Anna's Jazz Island in Berkeley.  She performs regularly at restaurants/nightclubs, weddings, private parties/corporate events, and also does studio recording.  Angie's musical influences include Chopin, Debussy, Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea and Stevie Wonder.  She recently finished producing her own debut jazz CD album for piano trio, "Journey," which includes two original compositions and was released in 2012. The album has been featured on the radio station KDUZ in her home state of Minnesota.


If you are interested in lessons, Angie has over 10 years experience teaching all ages, levels and styles from classical to popular and jazz.  She teaches at Musically Minded Academy in Oakland.  She strives to give her students a balanced musical education including sight-reading, music theory, technique, rhythm, and improvisation, while tailoring to their own musical interests.
